Question:
Hi I am staying in Nairobi on a layover on Oct 25, 26, 27 and need a hotel for 3 nights. I have searched on www.Expedia.co.uk and see lots of diffrent hotels Hilton amongst others. Anybody got any suggestions or reccomendations? Cheers Steve
Response:
I stayed at the Hilton but was given the opportunity to check out the Northfolk, and the one where Powell stayed, can’t recall name something like Regent????. Hilton was the worse of the best. It is a far cry from what you expect the Hilton to be considering all the other Hiltons I have seen. Hilton is OK but the best one is the Regent (also downtown but not as central as the Hilton). Avoid the Intercontinental as its a dump – stayed there last September. New Stanley used to be good and it has the famous Thorn Tree Cafe (even though the original Thorn tree died!). Greta location right in the middle of everything. Be careful walking around after dark – basically avoid doing so alone even though you are right downtown. Cheers Gautam Subra *remove the obvious parts to e-mail me**

If you cn afford it, stay at the Norfolk for history and ambiance. Medium-budget – Fairlawn or Holiday Inn, Mayfield Court Liz — Website: http://www.argonet.co.uk/users/lizleyden Kenya & Tanzania, Seychelles & India Coming next – USA: SW deserts, Grand Teton & Yellowstone Image manipulation and some basic computer calligraphy.

Stupid Expensive: Norfolk Expensive: Hotel 680 (USD $60) Moderate: Parkside (USD $11) Cheap: New Kenya Lodge ($4) – Buy mosquito coils. Across the street from Hotel 680 is a place called SIMMERS, which has an internet cafe for $1/hour, which is the cheapest I’ve seen in ALL of africa. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – >Hi >I am staying in Nairobi on a layover on Oct 25, 26, 27 and need a >hotel for 3 nights. >I have searched on www.Expedia.co.uk and see lots of diffrent hotels >Hilton amongst others. The Serena is the best hotel in town. We use exclusively in our safari programs unless someone specifically requests another hotel. http://www.serenahotels.com/content_nairobi.html That website can also link you to other Serena properties that might be in your trip. —–= Posted via Newsfeeds.Com, Uncensored Usenet News =—– http://www.newsfeeds.com – The #1 Newsgroup Service in the World! —–== Over 80,000 Newsgroups – 16 Different Servers! =—–

Phil, excellent hotel. Lufthansa used it for their crew overnight stops. It’s located next to a city park, which is not a safe area at night, but then you wouldn’t walk out of any Nairobi hotel at night anyway. Hans-Georg — No mail, please.

Btw, anybody here knows if the Devon Hotel is still existing? I’ve been there a long time ago (80s) and it has been some sort of backpackers meeting point at that time – they had in and out going trucks by "Explorer" (if my memory serves me right) in the parking lot all the time. Well, accommodation was just – um, basic. It was east of the city center. Just curious.
