<snip June or September?> The weather would likely be fine in September as well – warm days with a hint of autumn – but don’t quote me on this! Sometimes it is lovely right up until the end of October, but a couple of years ago it got rainy and cold right at the beginning of September and that was it until the following spring. I would bring an umbrella and a light waterproof coat, but you might well end up walking around in shirt sleeves, at least during the day. It will also be less crowded in September than in June, and you may find that accommodation is a bit cheaper and easier to find as well (this is just the impression of a native, though – the streets are less crowded, but I wasn’t generally queuing for attractions or trying to get a hotel room). June is undoubtedly beautiful in terms of flowers, etc, but the growing season will not be over in September by any means. The grass will be green, and, depending on what time of the month you go, the leaves won’t have started to turn either (although that is beautiful to see as well). I lived in London for 7 years and always loved September. June is beautiful too (you will not *believe* the lushness of the gardens), but you’ll have to share it with the mobs. It’s starting to thin out a bit later on, and you will undoubtedly appreciate the extra space (but I’m from Saskatchewan, so space is usually pretty high on my list of priorities). Having said all this, I’m leaving for London myself next week – but the timing is dictated by business obligations! Lucky you, living somewhere that has direct charter connections – I still have to get to Calgary or Edmonton from Saskatoon! Anyway, you’ll have a great time, whenever you choose to go. Susan

I have an opportunity to take a cheap, last minute charter flight to London next week (for a week) from Edmonton, Canada. The problem is that my collegues at work are not too keen on it due to the timing (quite understandable) but I’ve got some vacation time. The other option is to wait until early September and hope that another cheap charter is available. London lovers and natives: what time of year would you recommend to visit London? I’ve never been there and it is the one city in the world that I really want to visit ASAP (been to Paris, Rome). I know that in June the freshness of late spring would be fabulous but I know that there has been a lot of rain there lately. I’ve always enjoyed September travel to any place but does London have one month that stands out for one reason or another? What about tourists. Although I’ve read that there is no real slow season there, is there a noticeable difference between June and September? Ditto with the climate. One point to consider: London is almost as far north as Edmonton, so if you go in June you’ll get considerably more daylight each day. About two hours more in the evening, and the same in the morning before you get up. I like the spring myself, but I’ve never been there in September. — Mark Brader | Well, unfortunately, that is impossible, or very difficult, or Toronto | highly inadvisable, or would require legislation–one of those.
