Question:

>Bellagio is stunningly beautiful and boats run to all parts of the lake from >it.

This is an understatement. — Michael Forrest

Response:

The very efficient tourist office in Como city will find rooms all around the lake and tell you how to get there. I stayed at the Hotel Roma (local tel 950424) in Bellagio. Local access code as 031 and international code for Italy would 39 – giving +39+031-950424. Italian phone numbers are in a state of flux so if this doesn’t work you could ask your international directory people. It may be referred to as Albergo Roma. (You will know that Albergo is the name for a very basic hotel). It is probably about the cheapest and most basic accommodation to be found on Lake Como apart from hostels and camping. You are most unlikely to get either TV or telephone in your room, and some (cheaper) rooms may not have their own facilities. But, if you are a couple, try to get a room with a view of the lake. The view is wonderful. It is very unlikely to be accessible on the internet. It is possible they have a fax – I don’t know – you may able to find out from directory enquiries. I believe it is only open March to November. Most of the staff have no English, but are very helpful. The son of the house (it is a family concern) has reasonable English. I paid 62,000 lira a night for B&B in a single room,  and 82,000 for half-pension. Bellagio is stunningly beautiful and boats run to all parts of the lake from it. The Roma is up a steep alley from the port, so it offers no parking and you cannot get just outside the door with a car. There is a phone available in reception. — Andrew Nightingale (UK)

I’m trying to find some information about possible accommodation in the lake Como area of northern Italy; not too expensive. Any suggestions would be welcome. Thanks Peter
