"Moderate" is so relative, it’s difficult to know what you have in mind. My favorite hotel in Amsterdam is the Canal House Hotel, on the Keizersgracht. See http://www.canalhouse.nl/ About $120 for a double. I don’t usually pay that much for accommodation, but this is such a great place that it is worth it. BTW, they bill themselves as "moderately" priced. 17th century, 26 rooms, beautifully furnished with antiques, nice little lounge, nice area and views, convenient, located in a residential area, 5 min. to Anne Frank house and 10 min. to Dam Square. — Harlan — Soft adventure tours, the way to go, at http://www.softadventure.net Tanzania Millennium Safari, February 2000: http://www.softadventure.net/tanzania2000.htm Nepal, October 2000: http://www.softadventure.net/nepal.htm

Hotel Toren was nice and not too expensive. Located on Keizersgracht. An easy walk to the center city and adjacent to the Jordaan district. It is located in two separate houses, several doors apart. When we were there last month, there was a construction company’s barge parked right out front of the "main" house (for workers rehabbing another house on the block), so the other would be a better bet. Or you could get a room that faced the garden and save some money. Very pleasant people running the place (as we found nearly all Dutch folks to be).

Hi, the best deal I’ve found for me in amsterdam is the Hotel de Stadhouder… it’s on a canal, 50m from a main tramline, brown cafe on the corner, quiet neighborhood, 1 tram stop from rijksmuseum and 1 tram stop to the alpert cuypstraat market, on circletramline (across canal) 100m to Heineken museum/brewerie, has elevator, good breakfast, cable tv, no in room phones…rates from 75nlg-150nlg. (150nlg for a triple with shower/wc). rooms in front are a bit noisier but face the canal (and the street)…rooms in rear face rough garden but are quieter…I like street side. I found it perusing the printed hotel guides by noting it was not only the cheapest VVV listed hotel with an elevator it was almost next door the the heineken brewerie. not fancy but clean and convenient. ttyl akia – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text ->Can anyone recommend a moderately priced hotel located on an Amsterdam >canal? > Hotel Toren was nice and not too expensive.
