Question:

Hi Need help finding cheap but decent accommodation in Edinburgh for a week in June. Tnx

Response:

Zev, Try The Priestville Guesthouse, run by Colin and Trina Warwick.  Their house is in a residential area a block’s walk from a bus line which runs directly to the Royal mile.  I think it was about 25 GBP per person, perhaps a bit less.  It was very convenient to get around.  We had a car and there was adequate parking.  You could get out of town easily for trips to the borders, etc.  Actually I think there is even a bus to one of the Abbeys as well. Give him a call or drop a line.  We’re staying there in May again. Colin was a chef so the breakfasts are great! I stayed at Joppa Turrets: http://www.joppaturrets.demon.co.uk/ this past December, and liked it very much indeed.  It is in a suburb (Portobello), but there is bus service to the central city every five minutes on weekdays (and every fifteen minutes on Sunday!), and there is a lovely view of the sea from your window.   There is also a nice convenience store one block away, and a nearby B&B serves a fine fish dinner. — Check out *Raven Days*: http://www.ravendays.org For victims and survivors of bullying. And for those who want to help.

If you don’t get a recommendation, you can always book through the local tourist office. They charge a fee but will find you a good, government- inspected room for a fair price. I’ve never been disappointed with the rooms booked through any of the tourist offices in Britain. If a budget room is very important, make sure the person behind the desk knows your preference.

I’d argue that _you’ve_ been unlucky. It’s quite easy to get quality B&B accomodation close to the centre, and very easy if you’re prepared to stay a bus ride away. Plenty of books and websites list them. In addition, even the hotel booking agencies can typically get high quality (3 and even 4 star on accasion) rooms at late notice for about
