Question:

Hello. My flight into Sydney will come in at around 5.30am. I was wondering if there’s a cheap motel/hotel nearby where I can take a short nap till noon before getting to the city. Anyone?

They are all of the 5-Star brand except for one smallish motel located behind the Hilton. The "city" is only 7-8km’s from the airport anyway – at that time of the morning it will probably only take you about 20 minutes maximum to get into town – almost as long as a shuttle bus will take to get to the nearby hotels once it does the terminal loops. Cheers.  Al.

I wouldn’t recommend sleeping a ’short nap’ on the first day.  Indeed, try to just stay up until the sun sets.  Otherwise, you will wake up in the middle of the night or otherwise. Your plane comes in at 5:30.  You won’t be leaving the airport (after getting your bags and going through customs) until about 8 or so.  That is prime rush hour.  With the traffic congestion and road work, it will take you at least an hour to get into the city.   Last October, it took us  1 1/2 hours just to get home to Manly.  I wasn’t amused. I can’t give recommendations of what to do to pass time, other than maybe go the other way…have a cup of cappucinno at Coogie, or Bondi or something like that.  All before heading into the city when the traffic calms down. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – >Hello. >My flight into Sydney will come in at around 5.30am. from memory, there are a few pubs in the suburbs fringing the airport (arncliffe etc) tho they’re not terribly salubrious. (Hotels, they have beds upstairs: called things like the Arncliffe Hotel etc etc). you might have trouble getting to sleep that night, as someone else has suggested. And clearing Customs can be lengthy, if another plane gets in at the same time. I know it’s horrendous, but you’d be better off arranging to dump your luggage at whereever you’re staying that night, and then head off: my pick would be to go ride the ferries on the harbour: good thing to do while you’re feeling zonked. Sit out on the deck, get a good dose of wind and sea air, stand on the beach at Manly, then head for your accommodation and sleep at the right time. Ant!
