Question:

Hi all I am looking at pre-booking one to two nights budget accommodation for 3 people in Dar Es Salaam for early Feb and have heard that the Silver Sands Hotel is a good choice even though its a little out of the way. Is this true ? How does it compare to say the Bahari Beach Hotel ? Any ideas for budget accommodation in Dar Es Salaam would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again. Shane Australia

Dear Shane, The one hotel you mention is one I am not familiar with.  There is a White Sands Hotel on the north coast of Dar es Salaam, and it will take you about 25 minutes minimum to get there from the city centre. If you are going that far, I prefer the Beachcomber which is next door and much nicer for the same money. Bahari Beach is even farther away, but is quite nice.  It should be a bit more money though. If you prefer to stay in town, my recommondation is for you to try Courtyard.  It is a nice place, just at the edge of town so you are a few minutes to most places in the city.  Prices are reasonable and service is friendly and professional. There is also the Royal Palm, formerly the Sheraton.  Though this is no longer a Sheraton property, it is still expensive. Gary http://www.safari.cc
