Question:
Does anyone know a good, cheap hostel in Zermatt? How about some cheap places to eat? Are there frequent trains from Interlaken to Zermatt? Thanks, Brian

There are no direct trains, because there’s a break of gauge. In fact, I think (I’m going from memory here) that you’ll have to change twice, at Spiez (or maybe Thun) and then Brig. But it’s a scenic trip all the way. Be sure to sit on the right for the Spiez-Brig section; then when leaving Brig, if you sit on the right again you can see across the valley to the cliffside tracks that you just came down. As to frequency, the general rule in Switzerland is one train per hour, although sometimes it’s half or double that; one per hour is what I’d expect for this journey. And with reasonably good connections. — Mark Brader I "need to know" *everything*! How else Toronto can I judge whether I need to know it? My text in this article is in the public domain.

Well, to find ANYTHING cheap in Zermatt is like finding something affordable at Harrod’s. No idea, sorry. Train: Yes, you have to change twice, but you never change station. Train info is at www.sbb.ch (swiss railways).
