It’s in Viale delle Olimpiadi, north of the Vatican. Its website gives the distance as 6 km from  Stazione Termini. Bus fares are negligible in Rome. I’ve never satyed in the YH, but I certainly wouldn’t consider its distance from the centre a rason to avoid it. Alan Harrison

I’ll add my agreement to Barbara’s suggestion, the one and only IYH in Rome is miles out of town, so anything you might save on it you’ll lose on fares into town plus time on buses. You can find quite a few cheap hotels with basic amenities near the main Railway station (Termini), I stayed there a few years ago and like Barbara suggests, just got the addresses out of Let’s Go, Pete – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text ->There are a number of inexpensive hotels in Rome. Hi, a friend of mine and I are going to Rome in August and wanted to reserve place to stay in a youth hostel.  I sent a message (using the online reservation system) to the only hostel found in Rome (through www.hostels-aig.org) but they haven’t replied to me yet.  Is it too late to make reservations?  Are all those places packed all the time? From what we hear, the hotel prices in Rome are outrageous and we won’t be able to afford a hotel?  Any suggestions?  Does anyone have any experience going there in the summer? Thanks in advance!a — ivan

We stayed in a hostel/pension thing called ‘Hotel Dino’ fot far from (name?) central station.  The people at ‘Enjoy Rome’ found it for us. http://www.enjoyrome.com/ cheers, -kt — Mad Dog’s Breakfast:     The Travel Magazine that doesn’t take itself too seriously     http://www.MadDogsBreakfast.com
