Question:

I think Ramadan is determined on the lunar position etc. However, September 11 is New Year Day for a certain country… I wonder how those celebrations will go this year. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – > What was September 11 on the Muslim calendar?  When does THAT date roll around > again?  (Just because Christmas comes on the same date on our calendar every > year, doesn’t mean that Ramadan is celebrated annually on the same date of our > calendar….)

I did not imply it occured during that time or had anything to do with it. Just tried to explain that Ramadan is determined by lunar position, not conversion between your and muslim calendars.

Unless you want to fly from Atlanta to Sacramento and back… $1088 a month ahead of time to fly out 9/10 and back 9/11 on Delta. I guess Delta isn’t interested in encouraging travel. Charlie

Response:

I was thinking about the following: Since thousands were stranded in Canada who greaciously hosted all those pax, perhaps there should be deals to allow those passengers to return to their "adopted" cities for free.

I think it should be the other way around, treat the hosts! – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – > I was thinking about the following: > Since thousands were stranded in Canada who greaciously hosted all those pax, > perhaps there should be deals to allow those passengers to return to their > "adopted" cities for free.

Maybe they have a desire to make a profit. If you really want to take an anti terrorist stand, then pay the normal fare. After all, the willingness to fly for $1 each way or free  isn’t really taking an anti terrorist stand, is it? It simply a way to get something for nothing.

Response:

There was as story about that in one of the papers a month or so ago, how some of the host towns actually have had some people come back to spend their vacations this summer.  Both as a way to say thanks, and because for a few days they got a taste of something they wanted to return to. Canada is so overlooked as a vacation destination by many americans.

What was September 11 on the Muslim calendar?  When does THAT date roll around again?  (Just because Christmas comes on the same date on our calendar every year, doesn’t mean that Ramadan is celebrated annually on the same date of our calendar….)

Response:

Some airlines are offering free or cheap flights (Spirit Airlines) and many hotels are offering free accommodations (in Fort Lauderdale Florida anyways). Makes no sense to stay home.

Provided you mind just a one-day trip….tho something like Ohio to Florida would be a bit much for just one day. Of course, if you start or are in the middle of a trip that day, that’s another matter
