Question:

My friend and I will be visiting Sydney at the end of April.  We are both in the USN and are looking for a cheap place to stay for 10 days.

Response:

Try the YHA (Australian branch of Hostelling International) Sydney Central. It’s right by Central Railway station and is only a few minutes walk from most places of interest and of course nightlife.  You’ll also be hanging out with alot of people in your age bracket. If you like you can check their website at www.yha.com.au and follow the links till you reach the Sydney Central site. Only $35 per person twin share with ensuite!  This is in Australian dollars which means only about $25 US each per night. Hope this helps and enjoy your stay! Shelly P.S. You may need to join Hostelling International – best send the hostel an email and check on this.

Coogee is a great area to stay in. It’s a beachside suburb with lots of hostels, cafes and the fab Coogee Bay Hotel (I often go there on Saturday arvos). If you are looking to party then this is the way to go. The Coogee Beach Backpackers is about A$20 a night; haven’t stayed there myself but there is always something happening there. Web page with pics is www.sydney.citysearch.com.au/E/V/SYDNE/0017/08/36/cs1.html Otherwise try searching www.ninemsn.com.au Have fun Lisa Before you buy.

I missed the start of this topic, so this may be irrelevant, but in many cases HI want you to join in your home country. Daniel — Daniel Bowen, Melbourne, Australia dbowen at custard dot net dot au Toxic Custard Guide to Australia: http://www.toxiccustard.com/australia/
