I have taken my whisperlite on the plane to France and there was no problems.  Just make sure there is NO fuel or pressure in the stove and you will be fine (buy your fuel when you get there!!!!) How about trying a Trangia alcohol stove?  I don’t know what the airline’s attitude regarding these little stoves is, but I understand you CAN actually mail and/or UPS ship alcohol.  I learned this from a PCT through-hiker.  She couldn’t mail any other type of fuel ahead except for alcohol. >2) To completely shift gears… Does anyone have any advice for >purchasing a food dehydrator? I highly recommend AMERICAN HARVEST SNACKMASTER dehydrators.  I bought mine several years ago at a discount appliance store for something like $60-70.  It’s thermostatically heat controlled with a fan, came with four stacking drying trays (can buy more) and one poylethelene liquids liner. Good luck Woody Schlom

I have taken my Whisperlite on planes many times, and I haven’t had any problems.  It violates no FAA rules or air safety regulations.  Just stick the Whisperlite in your luggage. However, it is illegal and unsafe to bring white gas or other fuel onto the plane.  So make sure your fuel bottle is empty, and buy the fuel when you get to Alaska. Have fun.

One way or another, I need to put together about two months worth of food for my extended trip, and I’m wondering if investing in a dehydrator (instead of buying prepackaged stuff) is worth the money and time. Anyone had particularly good look with a certain type? Thanks in advance…
