Again, Rick Steves’ book is excellent. We stayed at the Hostal Montalvo at about 6500 PTS including tax for double with bath. It is right by Plaza Mayor and Plaza del Sol so it is very convenient to everything.

I stayed at the Hostel Dulcinea; $35/night (at least in January), private bathroom, tv, GREAT location (down the block from the Hotel Palace, across the street from the Ritz and the Prado). Safe, clean, friendly management C/ Cervantes,19 2
