Question:

>Is > there a lot of travellers at that time of year? (I will be there from > oct 22 to nov 1st)

There are several hostels in London, the most central is just off Oxford Street. I don’t know how many other travellers there ‘ll be, but you won’t be alone! > And by reading this NG, I realised that I dont know if Heatrow airport > is far from the city. Do I have to hire a cab to get to the hotel or is > there some kind of train, subway or something from the airport? I guess > there are shuttles to the city, but is it expensive?

You can take the Heathrow Express, quick but pricey, or the tube, which is slower and a lot cheaper. There are also buses. Heathrow is a little way outside London to the west. You can take a cab but it’ll be expensive and isn’t necessary. > And…what about the weather??

Variable. Likely to be damp, could be quite cold (evenings probably will be.) Could be warm if there is an Indian summer. Bring a mac or a brolly and a good jumper or two. Shorts not necessary.

Pardon my ignorance but..i guess a brolly is an umbrella.  what are a mac and a good jumper?  Thanks. Beer is your friend….. if you let it be.

Response:

A "mac" is a raincoat (macintosh) and a "jumper" is a sweater to us Yanks. >Bring a mac or a brolly and a good jumper or two. > Pardon my ignorance but..i guess a brolly is an umbrella.  what are a mac and a > good jumper?  Thanks. > Beer is your friend….. if you let it be.
