Question:
: I’m going for vacation to Cabo San Lucas/Los Cabos area in two weeks. : So I’d appreciate hints/tips/other advice on: : – where to stay ( city/village/youth hostel/private acomodation) : – what to see : – where is the best place to swim in the ocean ( the main purpose of my : trip ) : – what to do / not to do to stay away from trouble. I was there last November, and I stayed at the Hotel Hacienda. The Hacienda is ~25 years old, but is a) clean, b) affordable, c) well staffed, d) has good water, e) their beach is swimmable (unlike many of the beaches at other hotels) f) they have a security officer or two on the premises (including the beach) g) close enough to walk to town, far enough away to keep it quiet, and h) they have their own watersports center on-site. In other words, I would definetly stay there again! I would also recommend the Corral for lunch or dinner. And definetely stay away from the time-share sales people! Good luck & have fun! -Courtney Courtney Kerr UNLV EH&S

Hi everyone, Sorry for cross-posting. I’m going for vacation to Cabo San Lucas/Los Cabos area in two weeks. I don’t speak Spanish and have never been there, but I’ve been told it’s a fabulous place. So I’d appreciate hints/tips/other advice on: – where to stay ( city/village/youth hostel/private accomodation) – what to see – where is the best place to swim in the ocean ( the main purpose of my trip ) – what to do / not to do to stay away from trouble. : Hi everyone, : : Sorry for cross-posting. I’m going for vacation to Cabo San Lucas/Los Cabos : area in two weeks. I don’t speak Spanish and have never been there, but : I’ve been told it’s a fabulous place. So I’d appreciate hints/tips/other Daniel, I’ve been to Cabo twice, most recently a week ago. I had a crappy time because of a variety of factors which you should be able to control. One-stay at a place with purified water, most of the hotels have it, but it’s still something to consider. Two, don’t eat any vegetables, I got a bug down there and it was either from the vegetables or the ice cubes, either way, I was miserable. Three, you don’t need to speak spanish because anyone in the tourist trade speaks english, most do appreciate it if you do try and communicate in their native language, but its not required. Four, always travel in groups, my buddy got rolled by the cops down there-they were even kind enough to take him to an ATM so he could pay his bribe! Five, you’ll want to stay as close to town as posible, because downtown Cabo is where the partying is at. I suggest the Bahia, although its not on the beach directly, its a hop, skip and a jump from the OFFICE, a bar right on Medano Beach that is the place to be during the day. Other good hotels are the Melia and the Villas del Palmar, where I stayed, although I understand that they might be doing some construction-ask your travel agent. The general rule of thumb, however, is that any hotel with purified water and a proximity to the downtown and Medano Beach (which, along with lover’s Beach are the places to swim, although you’ll need a water taxi to get you to lover’s Beach) is a good hotel. Six, use pesos, and bargain with most everyone except the taxi drivers and the restaurants, where prices are generally pretty set. Seventh, the best places to party are, in the following order, based upon time of the evening- The Giggling Marlin, from 8 PM to 11 or so, followed by Cabo Wabo, which is often rather up and down, ie. sometimes its dead and sometimes its hoppin’, also from 8ish to 11ish, and then Squid Roe, which is usually packed by midnight until close, and this place is REALLY HOPPIN’. If your looking for a pretty good strip club, Mermaids has a lot of hot chicks and you’ll probably want to try it at least once. Eight, go fishing at least once, its worth it, but remember, you get what you pay for, the bigger the boat, the better it is for marlin fishing- if you don’t want to spend all the money, then go Panga fishing (a panga is a small, open, boat) for roosterfish and tuna, I’ve heard its alot of fun. Well, that’s about it, have fun and be safe. If you have any other questions about Cabo, e-mail me at Later! George
