Hotels FAQ » Hostel » Hostels in south of france/italy?
Question:
Hi, Can anyone give me any info on availability/prices of hostels in the south-east of france (eg, Nice) and north eastern italy? Also, do many hostels there have a curfew or require you to help out with any work? Thanks! David

Generally, I found the French hostels to be a lot more fun and a lot less hassle than the International Youth Hostels. There’s a beauty in Cap d’ Ail near Monaco, on a trail that goes along the Mediterranean into town. The train stops up the hill. Took the words right out of my mouth… Way back in my backpacking days, a very very long time ago, I stayed in the Cap d’Ail hostel several times on several different trips – even after getting sick & tired of Monte Carlo (probably the factor of not having money there was part of it!), we would go out of our way to stay there – beautiful old Italian style villa right on gorgeous rocky waterfront. There was a curfew, though, way back when – I remember having to climb a spike-topped fence to get back in one night – owwww! Enjoy! Brenda P.S. You probably have to prereserve as I would imagine this is still one of the most popular hotels in Europe. Before you buy.

Hi, Thanks for the info, but I was mainly looking get two questions answered: 1) Availability of hostels (ie, is there at least one in every small town?) 2) Price. Any figures on average prices in hostels? I have a YHA membership card. Thanks for your help! David
