Hotels FAQ » Hostel » getting to Moab
Question:
Amtrak stops in Thompson Springs, I think, which is 25 or so miles north of Moab. You could ride from there if you had panniers/racks.
Response:
Hello All, Does anybody know of a cheap way to get to Moab? Without a car? The people I’ve spoken to so far have told me to take a plane to Grand Junction and then rent a car to Moab. That can be expensive since I only need a car to get to Moab and back to the airport. Your help is appreciated. Thank you -Mark

I believe that you can get a shuttle bus in Grand Junction…

Ride your bike. Or else hitch hike. Bus they are pretty cheap. See if a local bike club is ever planning a trip there.

Well, I guess it depends on where you’re coming from. I used Amtrak to get to Grand Junction and hired a car from there, but I believe there is a shuttle bus as well for backpackers – you could try ringing the hostel in Moab (Lazy Lizard) and ask them. I can’t comment on the price of Amtrak tickets versus plane fares (I imagine Amtrak costs more generally) as I used a railpass. You can get to Grand Junction via Amtrak from either Denver or Salt Lake City. — "In real life, there IS no reset button" Fraser Bryden http://blackadder.cse.rmit.edu.au/~skiman
