It’s true that the northern part of the country is said to be unsafe but the south and mid of the country of said to be safe …. Anyone more comments or recent information on situation in Ghana? Katrien
Response:
Well, I might be mad but then I’d like to know why …. Have you ventured onto a Ghana-trip yourself and do you judge my plans from your personal experience???? I’d rather be mad than a pathetic caged tourist in a reserve made for that particular kind … Katrien
Response:
Heavens, are you mad? Well, it’s a life’s experience. Just take extra care! Your concerns are valid and would be applicable to almost anywhere, to a degree. I would suggest you try to hook up with a group of some sort, either one traveling to the country or an incountry organization. Being part of a group or connected to a group would help ease those concerns. You don’t want to get there and then be too afraid to venture out or let one bad experience, or what seems to be a bad experience, ruin your whole trip. Do some internet searches and check the travel pages. Do you have any special interests (photography, genealogy, stamp collecting, for example) that might have a group in the country. Is there a professional group you can connect with? Youth Hostel program? Look for a link that will give you the courage to explore and to really enjoy the experience. And do contact the State Dept. about the security aspect. If you contact the Ghana desk at State in Washington, they might be able to steer you toward some groups. Also try Agency for International Development, if it hasn’t been eliminated (can’t remember). It’s part of State but smaller and you can probably find someone who is very familiar with the country.
