Question:
Are there any driveaway companies in Australia similar to the ones in the US? Has anyone used them, got any tips, etc…? All information appreciated, Sophie

Presume you mean like those organisations which allow you to transfer cars across the country free of charge, provided you follow the time and mileage allowed. Don’t know of any, but from time to time major car rental organisations do need to return cars from one place to another, and they may be prepared to deal on reduced rates if you’re going where and when they need to do this. Suggest you email the major companies such as Hertz, Avis, Budget, National and see whether you can do a deal. Regards David Bennetts

Yep, and they tend to provide information about this through hostels – so if you have the time, just hang around a hostel until a car turns up and go where it has to go – try for a more or less random trip round Aussie, could be fun. Odi profanum vulgus etarceo.
