This is certainly true, so that, for example, the trip to or from Oxford Circus would take a similar average time whether via Piccadilly Circus and the Piccadilly Line or via Paddington and the H’row Express. The tube also has more frequent services. > From some places in > London (eg Kings Cross) to Gatwick, the Thameslink train is more > convenient than the Gatwick Express
This may also be the case for some suburbs, such as Harrow, which have more convenient tube connections to Farringdon than to Victoria. Alan Harrison

There are buses available for direct transport between the airports but as you are staying 2days I guess transport to London is more useful, right ? From Heathrow you have the choice of the underground Piccadilly line, about 1h and most inexpensive, or the more expensive Heathrow Express trains leaving every 15min,15 min travel time to Paddington station. To Gatwick you have the Gatwick express trains leaving from Victoria station every 15min,travel time 35min. The straight way between the two airports is about 40km. Lennart Petersen

This may not be as dramatic a difference as it first appears, as the Piccadilly Line runs through Central London and makes various stops, whereas Heathrow Express just runs between Heathrow and Paddington. >To Gatwick you have the Gatwick express trains leaving from Victoria station >every 15min,travel time 35min.
There are also various other trains between London and Gatwick: if Jack, who started this thread, is on a tight budget he might consider the slightly cheaper Connex train from Victoria. I’ll be flying into Heathrow and leaving from Gatwick two days later. Can somebody tell me how long it takes to get between the two airports, (and how far it is) between the two airports? Also I plan to spend some time in London sightseeing etc. Can anyone recommend CHEAP palces (hostels are fine) to stay that are relatively close to down town and possibly on the way between the airports? Any ideas on the cheapst means of transportation between the places? Thanks, Jack
