Question:

Hi I am 23-year-old student from Denmark. My girlfriend and I are going to United States this summer. We would like to visit your country by car and now I would like to know how we can get hold of a car and if we need some kind of special permission to drive in the US and what about plates ??? Any help appreciated greatly! yours Steffen

Response:

The only thing you need to drive here, is a valid license and your passport and, of course, money to rent a car.

I also believe that with most (all?) states, you can only drive with a foreign driver’s license for up to 90 days only. I don’t suppose you’ll stay that long, but if you do, keep that in mind : ) — jack garlic Health is merely the slowest possible rate at which one can die.

None at all, as long as you comply with the laws (insurance, pay fees and taxes, etc). My old apartment used to have a youth hostel set-up in the lower floors of the building, and some of the kids stayed for up to a year. Several of them bought old beat-up cars and simply sold them before they left. Another tenant I know still has an old Impala a pair of guys from Italy gave him when they went home.         Emanuel "Everybody wants a normal life and a cool car; most people settle for the car."
