I too never take valuables and always carry my cash and passport etc., with me. Thanks for the information, it is much appreciated. Paul

I don’t know this particular place, but it seems most unlikely that "the beds are screened off" (screened off from what?). Have you never seen a dorm in a hostel?  I expect that the situation is one large(ish) room with 20 beds (possibly bunk beds), with facilities attached to the room (not the beds). >  I am 35 years old and male, not shy or prudish, but would like to know what >  to expect before I book!  Also, how does this work with security of your >  belongings?

If you are "not shy or prudish" (why should that make a difference unless one is sufficiently so to be concerned about having the beds in a dorm be "screened off" in some way?), then there should be no problem.  Note, though, that a dorm will not be as quiet as a private room (others will almost certainly be either retiring or rising while you are asleep), and this can be a problem for some people. Most such places have either lockers or some other form of secured storage for your valuables.  I’ve only bothered with them at places with huge dorms (eg: 100 beds), as I don’t carry valuables when I’m on holiday (other than things like cash, passport, etc., which I can keep on my person). — hate spam? <http://www.cauce.org>            <http://www.byshenk.net/ive.been.spammed.html>

Hi all I booked a cheap flight to Barcelona a few months ago for January 8th (7 days) but have since been made unemployed. With what remains of my last pay (I was sacked on Christmas eve) I want to take the trip, but will now have to do it on a very tight budget.. I have found cheap accommodation online and am particularly interested in La Ciutat, Barcelona. However, they only have shared accommodation in a 20 bed dorm. Has anyone experienced this type of accommodation? They state that it is a 20 bed mixed dorm with private facilities!? I imagine the beds are screened off? I am 35 years old and male, not shy or prudish, but would like to know what to expect before I book!  Also, how does this work with security of your belongings? Can anyone recommend any other cheap and cheerful accommodation in Barcelona which may have availability for 8th for 7 nights? Thanks a million for any advice you can offer. Regards.
