Question:
Hello everyone I’ll be in Sydney from 9th July and I am looking for a quiet place to stay for a few days. I have a HYA card but i was told the main YHA there is full of cockroaches (that was an info from a few years ago though). So any suggestion for a reasonably cheap and quiet place (am avoiding anything ‘bustling’ or ‘packed’)? Thanks a lot — Use our news server ‘news.foorum.com’ from anywhere. YHA downtown sydney is clean and safe good location. been there the last 4 years for at least 4 day’s no problem. in australia the climate is good for cockroaches but never met them in Sydney. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text -> Hello everyone > I’ll be in Sydney from 9th July and I am looking for a quiet place to stay for a > few days. I would suggest that you stick to the YHA facility at Central Railway. Here is the site – http://www.yha.org.au/hostel_search/hostel.cfm?region=62&hostel_ID=29… 1&from=st_srch&acts= Do not worry about "cockies", they are nowhere as bad as they look – Sydney residents like myself have been putting up with them all our lives. Just do not leave food uncovered in your rooms. Have a great time Geoff Lillico

The SYD central YHA is clean, modern, central, well equipped…and a bloody zoo. The one in Glebe is much more personable and still within trundling distance of the CBD. Some cute shops and architecture around there too, as far as these things go…

they’re in SYD, although not terribly common in clean places. I saw a couple scampering around a mate’s deck even though the building and flat were spotless – they’re not a big deal unless you’re particularly squeamish. A little bit of boric acid in the corners of your room will keep them away. The SYD Central is usually booked in advance, especially at peak periods.
