I would heartily concur with Oliver W. comments as to staying at the >Kempinski Hotel Atlantic >An der Alster 72, 20099 Hamburg.

Related to another thread in this ng about Relais et Chateaux establishments there are two Relais et Chateaux hotels in Hamburg, Hotel Lois C Jacob on the Elbe, and Hotel Abtei near the city centre. We have not used either of them but I doubt you would go far wrong with them. Look at www.relaischateaux.fr. Hotel Abtei looks as though it would be similar to three other city centre Relais et Chateaux hotels we do know and greatly like, Hotel Brandenburger Hof in Berlin, La Cigogne in Geneva and Hotel de Vigny in Paris. — Michael Forrest

Yes, I’d second that recommendation. If I remember rightly, the hotel restaurant is quite good too. Jim.

The Atlantic _is undoubtedly_ a very good hotel – for nostalgias sake my personal preference would go to the ‘Vier Jahreszeiten’ – I used to go there for sunday breakfast after a long saturday night out 
Incidentally, the Atlantic is the hotel used for the Hamburg scenes in the last James Bond movie ‘Tomorrow never dies’ – if I remember correctly, one of the women was killed in it – but then again, that was just a movie, right
