Question:

Funnily enough, the train is not only cheaper, but faster than the Airporter, too. Matthew :)

Response:

How about just taking the A (subway) all the way to Howard Beach, then the free airport shuttle.    (Taking the LIRR to jamaica MAY work if the LIRR leaves at the right time from penn station). – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text -> >I’d be taking an AIRPORTER bus from New Jersey) > Take NJ Transit train to Penn Station, change to an LIRR train to Jamaica and > take a cab from there. >Funnily enough, the train is not only cheaper, but faster than the Airporter, >too. >Matthew :)

Keep in mind that the shuttle bus to the terminals can take as long as *45 minutes*, and that the Far Rockaway-bound A train (the one you’d need) can run as infrequently as once every 40 minutes during overnight hours. Taking the LIRR would only work if you could find a taxi — I have no idea how easy they are to find at the Jamaica station.  (Knowing a little about the area, I think an illegal gypsy cab might be easier to find, but much more dangerous.)  If not, you’d be stuck on a New York Airporter Bus just the same, and could waste lots of time doing so versus just taking one from where you started from. Also consider a car service, which might not be that much more expensive than the bus if multiple people travel together. -Dan

Unless you have Platinum status, I would say your chances are close to zero. 90 minutes is cutting things close for domestic flights if you have checked baggage. Ken Ishiguro

Take NJ Transit train to Penn Station, change to an LIRR train to Jamaica and take a cab from there. -Erik

I might be wrong, but it looks like you can only use the NW internet checkin for domestic flights.

Response:

What would you say the chances of having no real problems.   How about 90 minutes before…. (that’s about the earliest I may be able to get there).    This would be for a noon flight to Thailand. I would plan to already have my NorthWest  Air boarding pass printed out before I get there (print out from the web, at home,  I hope…though i’ve never tried it).     I will be carrying on one small bag, and  checking one larger backpack.    I know I’m supposed to arrive at least 2 hours  before the flight. But due to transportation problems (without going into the details… I’d be taking an AIRPORTER bus from New Jersey) I wouldn’t get there until 80 or 90 minutes before (if the bus is on time, that is).    So, about 50 50 chance of getting on the plane (with my pre-assigned seats, which I WANT).     My only other alternative is to stay in a cheap hotel in NYC the night before (like a YMCA), and i may do that instead.
