But that was not part of the "747 poking its nose in the terminal" incident, it was just before the troubled plane makes it landing when the tower cheif says "I want you to throw everything’s you’ve got onto the runway" so you see all sorts of trucks moving onto the runway, including some dump trucks dumping their contents onto the runway. It is that scene that you see the Budweiser truck. Maryanne, I am quite disapointed, I would have though that you would have studied that bible of aviation in depth and know it by heart

Actually, since they used the term "lurched", wouldn’t that imply that the plane was able to hop over the blocks and then rapidly move forwards ?
Response:
>the chocks being removed from >*behind* the wheels. I meant to say *behind* the wheels, "chock" it up to not enough coffee when I posted that remark! Maryanne ….who will double check that the chock is _behind_ the front wheel when I go to DTW next week

Maybe they are experimenting with a new way of loading pax
Southwest has rear loading ramps why not cut down on the walk!

After "Airplane!" made AFI’s (American Film Institute) #5 top comedy film of the past 100 yrs, I guess CO decided it was a really a true-to-life documentary. Thom Artificial Intelligence is no match for natural stupidity. —Anon.

Some cities have bylaws that enable cops to give a ticket for improperly parked cars (no handbrake on a hill for instance, or wheels not aligned properly etc etc). Wonder if the last pilot to use that plane will get a ticket for improperly parking his plane ?

Actually, the "Airplane" thing really did happen. Back in about ‘69 or ‘70 when the 747 was brand new, one went through the window at LAX. Rich

One of the first news items (AP I think) I saw on this opened with the statement that ‘a parked plane hit the terminal’. Telekinesis ? Later on it stated ‘the engines suddenly fired up’. Spontaneous combustion ? Obviously the mechanics here were a bit behind schedule. Anyone who’s stayed at an airport hotel knows 3am is the preferred time for engine runs. Particularly if full thrust is required. Brian.

Yes, the real cause of this little incursion will be very interesting… — Weiyun [Remove the obvious for email replies]

What I heard on the canadian TV news tonight was that they were doing an engine test. No pax in the plane. I suspect that they forgot to put the brakes on
Question: would such a engine test be executed by pilots or by maintenance crews ?
Response:
Gives new meaning to the term "plane to gate"! The news rerport here in Atlanta said that a maintenance worker had removed the "blocks" from behind the front wheels of the plane—which caused the "lurch" forward. Maryanne

Rich, how long did it take for the Budweiser truck to show up on the tarmac at LAX? :) Maryanne

Got it. Then the dump truck unloads a ton of lamps on the runway. Then the Air Iran or Air Israel wearing an ethnic hat or head-dress is told to "please, clear the runway." Rich – btw good luck to all you folks travelling on the east coast tomorrow. My flight to SAN tomorrow has already been nixed due to a HUGE thunderstorm which is still passing through D.C. Rich
